The Allen Brain Explorer of the mouse brain is being used to represent the locations of the neurons from rat, mice and guinea pig brains in the NeuroMorpho.Org database. The locations of these neurons are mapped onto the Allen Reference Atlas using relevant information from the studies associated with the reconstructions. Each neuron in our database is represented as a dot or sphere in the Brain Explorer. The radius of the spheres is directly proportional to the complexity of the reconstructions which is represented as the length of all the processes in the neuron. The color of the spheres represents the cell type.
The three cell types for the initial release of this NeuroMorpho.Org to Allen Brain Explorer mapping will constitute of (i) Pyramidal cells (ii) Non-pyramidal principal cells and (iii) Interneurons. The image above, along with the video, provides a preview of the interactive Location Visualizer tool that will be released in a later version of NeuroMorpho.Org.
Suggestions on the interactive aspects and feature set of the tool would be highly appreciated.
